New Year Reset for Makers: A Fresh Start at Sew Sew Crochet
There’s something about a new year that makes everything feel a little lighter, isn’t there? ✨ A clean slate, fresh plans, and that quiet motivation to get organised before the year really gets going. At Sew Sew Crochet, January is all about resetting, planning, and tidying up – not just our yarn stash, but our mindset too.
Whether you’re a fellow maker or a crochet lover who enjoys handmade pieces, here’s how I’m starting the year and a few gentle reminders that might help you do the same.
Resetting After a Busy Creative Year
The end of the year is usually full-on for small handmade businesses. Christmas markets, last-minute orders, gift wrapping, and late nights with a hook in hand. January gives us permission to pause.
Resetting doesn’t mean doing everything at once. For me, it starts with:
- Slowing down the making schedule
- Reviewing what worked well last year
- Letting go of ideas or products that no longer fit
This reset helps clear both physical and mental space – which is just as important as having a tidy workspace.
A Proper Tidy Up (Yes, Even the Yarn Stash)
Let’s be honest – most crocheters have more yarn than they remember buying. 🙈 January is the perfect time for a proper yarn tidy and stock check.
Here’s what I do:
- Sort yarn by weight, fibre, and colour
- Check what’s actually usable vs what’s been hiding at the bottom of the basket for years
- Match yarn to existing or planned patterns
This makes future projects quicker to start and helps avoid buying duplicates of yarn you already own (we’ve all been there).
Checking Stock & Planning Makes Sense
For Sew Sew Crochet, a stock check is essential at the start of the year. I look at:
- What sold well (and what didn’t)
- Which crochet items need topping up
- Which products might be retired or refreshed
Planning ahead saves time, money, and stress. It also means I can focus on creating pieces you genuinely love – from cosy crochet accessories to thoughtful handmade gifts.
Spending Smarter (Not Just More Yarn!)
As tempting as a January yarn sale can be, this is your friendly reminder to spend intentionally. 😉
Instead of buying yarn just because it’s on offer, ask yourself:
- Do I already have something similar?
- Do I have a project planned for it?
- Would this money be better spent on tools, patterns, or finishing supplies?
Being mindful with spending leaves more room for creativity later in the year – and fewer unused skeins gathering dust.
