A Day in the Life of a Small Business Owner: Behind the Scenes at Sew Sew Crochet
Running a small business is a unique blend of creativity, hustle, and heart. As the proud owner of Sew Sew Crochet, I wear many hats—and not just the crochet kind! Today, I want to take you behind the scenes to show you what a typical day looks like in my world.
Morning: Orders, Coffee, and Planning
My day starts early with a cup of tea and a quick check of orders. Balancing Etsy orders with those coming through my website (which is so close to officially launching—stay tuned!) is always a priority. Today’s to-do list was ambitious:
- Crochet a pig in blanket
- Create two crocheted hats
- Knit one beanie
- Knit an ear warmer
- Bring to life a spring gonk in the most delightful purple shade
With my list set, I dove right in.
Mid-Morning: Crochet, Knit, Repeat
First up was the pig in blanket. It’s a playful piece that’s always a joy to make. The intricate details keep me engaged, and knowing it will bring a smile to someone’s face makes it even more rewarding.
Next, I switched to crocheting hats. There’s something so satisfying about seeing a project take shape so quickly. I finished two by lunchtime, each with its own unique flair.
Afternoon: Knitting Time
After a quick lunch (and some belly rubs for my faithful companion, Gus, the cocker spaniel), I moved on to the knitting projects. The beanie came together beautifully with soft, cosy yarn perfect for chilly days. The ear warmer was next, a simple yet stylish design that’s a hit with customers.
By mid-afternoon, I was ready to tackle the spring gonk. This purple cutie stole my heart as soon as it started to come together. Gonks are such cheerful creations, and they’re a great way to inject a pop of personality into any space.
Evening: Wrap-Up and Relaxation
With all the day’s projects completed, I packed up the orders, double-checked the shipping details, and set them aside for tomorrow’s post run. Gus, ever the supportive co-worker, curled up beside me as I tidied up my workspace.
Before calling it a day, I spent a little time working on the final touches for the website launch. It’s been a labour of love, and I can’t wait to share it with you all soon!
Reflections and Gratitude
Days like today are a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything. The joy of creating something with my hands and sharing it with others is unparalleled. And, of course, having Gus by my side makes every moment even better.
Running a small business is about more than just products—it’s about connection, passion, and perseverance. Thank you for supporting Sew Sew Crochet and allowing me to do what I love every single day. Here’s to more handmade creations and the stories they carry.
