Hi, I’m Kate — the maker behind Sew Sew Crochet

Welcome to Sew Sew Crochet — a little corner of the internet filled with yarn, colour, creativity and quite a lot of cute things.

I’m the person behind all the plushies, patterns and ideas you’ll find here.

I’ve been crocheting for between five and ten years, and I’m completely self-taught. I started with books, videos and plenty of trial and error, learning as I went and discovering that crochet was something I really loved.

My first project was a small toy — a little plushie that, looking back, was definitely wonky… but lovable. 

And honestly? I think that was a pretty important beginning.

It taught me that mistakes were part of learning. Not every stitch had to be perfect, and not everything had to work first time. Sometimes you just have to keep going, unravel a bit, try again and see where it takes you.

Although, these days, I should probably confess that I’m actually a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my crochet!

From one little plushie to Sew Sew Crochet

I’ve always been drawn to making cute, characterful things — especially things that make people smile.

That’s what I love most about crochet. You can start with nothing more than some yarn and an idea and end up with something that has its own little personality.

As I made more and more plushies, I started experimenting with my own ideas. One of my early fish designs was one of the first times I really felt like I was creating something that was mine.

And that was the beginning of something.

Sew Sew Crochet started to grow from simply making things I enjoyed into something I wanted to build into a real crochet business.

I still remember when someone bought one of my first pieces. It was a friend or family member, so it wasn’t exactly the biggest commercial transaction in history — but it was a huge moment for me.

Someone actually wanted to buy something I had made.

That little bit of encouragement made me wonder:

What if I could turn this into something more?

Learning to design my own patterns

As Sew Sew Crochet grew, I wanted to do more than just make crochet pieces. I wanted to design my own patterns.

I deliberately started small.

I wanted to build my confidence and learn how to take something from an idea in my head, work out how it would actually be constructed, and then turn all of that into instructions that another crocheter could follow.

It wasn't always straightforward.

There was plenty of experimenting, changing things, pulling things apart and trying again. But those little mistakes and challenges were exactly how I learned.

And gradually, the designs got bigger.

Bigger ideas, bigger plans

Once I became more confident, I realised I didn’t want to limit myself to small designs.

I wanted to create larger and more varied projects and, ultimately, a much wider range of Sew Sew Crochet patterns.

That’s what I’m working towards now.

I want my patterns to have the same personality as my plushies — cute, characterful and fun to make, but with enough variety that there’s always something new to try.

So Sew Sew Crochet is evolving.

There are more designs to create, more ideas to test, more patterns to write and, inevitably, quite a lot more yarn to acquire.

And I’m very happy about all of those things.

Why Sew Sew Crochet?

At the heart of it, I make things because I love making people smile.

Whether that’s someone picking up one of my plushies at a market and immediately falling in love with it, finding the perfect gift for someone, or a fellow crocheter finishing one of my patterns and thinking, “I made that!” — that’s the bit that makes all the frogging, reworking and perfectionist tendencies worthwhile.

I’m Kate, this is Sew Sew Crochet, and I’m still learning, still designing and still dreaming up what I can make next.

Just hopefully with slightly fewer wonky first attempts than I had at the beginning.
